TRAINING COURSE SPECIFICATIONS

INDUSTRIAL PROJECT

 General aim :

The training course concerning an industrial project is an important part of the Manufacturing and Processing Polymer Diploma.

This diploma is equal to the level of " BAC +5 " for students who are ready to take up themselves responsibilities in a polymer manufacturing company. These students are accepted into the course after previous selections based on their background studies and an interview to evaluate their motivation. Their initial study level has to be " BAC +2 " in a scientific discipline and they acquire complete ability in polymers processing after the three year course.

This placement is the end of the course and the final presentation of the work done leads to the diploma. It has been preceded by two other placements into industry.

The initial training period of four weeks is undertaken by the students at production operative level.

The second training period of fifteen weeks is concerned with polymer material and/or manufacturing processes.

  1. Host company :

The placement must take place into a company whose main activity is the manufacturing of thermoplastics materials.

This company should encompass the manufacturing process. All manufacturing processes must be able to meet one of the following criteria :

F injection, F blow moulding,

F extrusion, F stamping...

  1. Duration, content and progress of the placement :

The " Industrial Placement " must take place between the beginning of March 1998 and the end of June 1998.

The subject should concern the organisation and the management of production processes. The student will work on a project including technical aspects of plastic manufacturing as well as associated socio-economic constraints.

After a full appreciation of the subject and the surroundings of his placement, the student has to collect and analyse the necessary data for the execution of the project.

He then must work and justify solutions according to technical, economical and social aspects. Finally, the student will show calculations and breakdown for his solutions.

During the placement the student will be supervised by a manager who is in charge of either production or engineering in the company. A tutor from ISPA will also be designed to keep in touch with the student during his placement.

  1. Use of ISPA machines :

If during a special process of the placement, access to facilities at I.S.P.A. is required it will be available on a limited basis. However, if it takes more than half a day it will be subject to invoice. The conditions are subject to negotiation between the company and ISPA management.

  1. Report :

At the end of the placement, the student must write a report summarising his acquired experience and the results of his work.

The report must include two separate sections :

A full presentation is required at the end to valid the work in front of a jury and others students.

The written report will be given to the jury comprising ISPA directorate, tutor, course teachers, managers from the host company and industrials managers.

The confidentiality of sensitive information will be taken into account in the manner of the presentation.

The mark obtained for this presentation represents 10% of the general mark of the diploma.

  1. Presence expected from the company :

The student is responsible for finding the company, and negotiation of his subject and general conditions of his placement.

However in order to simplify and clarify the process ISPA would certainly appreciate it if the host helps the student in his search of accommodation. A full salary is not demanding, but any sort of contribution towards living costs would be appreciate.

  1. Training course agreement :

As soon as the agreement between student and company is ready, a training course agreement will be written and signed by the different parties.
